April 9th, 2014 MIT Enterprise Forum: Reinvigorating Small Business Development in NYC


On Wednesday, April 9th, OLC attended the MIT Enterprise Forum at the Anchin, Block & Anchin offices at 1375 Broadway New York, NYC. The evening was made possible by StartupNY and Anchin, Block & Anchin for hosting the event. Mary Howard, Principal, Design Technologies, Board Member of the MIT Enterprise Forum was the Panel Moderator for the evening. Panelist speakers included Steve Cohen, Senior VP and Deputy Commissioner for the Community Economic Development Corporation, Dr. Eva Cramer, PhD and Professor in Cell Biology, VP for Biotechnology and Scientific Affairs at SUNY Downstate Medical Center, Donald Giampietro, Assistant Commissioner of Business Incentives at the NYC Department of Small Business Services, and Andras Forgacs, Founder at Modern Meadow. 

The panel discussed the Innovate NY Fund and changes in the entrepreneurial climate in New York State since Governor Cuomo declared a tax free zone. This regulation allows new and expanding businesses to operate 100% tax-free for 10 years eliminating business, corporate, state or local taxes, sales and property taxes or franchise fees accelerating multiple business incentives for startups.
