On Thursday, June 5th, OLC attended “Innovate to Educate” held at 395 Hudson Street in New York City. Hosted by the Penn Pacesetters, below is a brief rundown of issues discussed the evening. Hosted by Barbara Kurshan, an education technology investor, the panelists included Don Burton, Managing Director of Kaplan EdTech Accelerator, John Katzman, Founder and CEO of Noodle, The Princeton Review and 2U, and Kate Eberle Walker, Senior VP of Strategy and Corporate Develoment at Tutor.com.
Topics discussed this evening included questions surrounding why the U.S. education system ranks but 17th amongst developed countries despite having one of the world’s highest spending levels per student. The panelists discussed the wave of emerging ed-tech companies innovating upon new solutions to help empower students, schools and communities in the education ecosystem.
