Last Tuesday, AngelLaunch Venture Forum brought together a packed room of startups and investors over pizza, beers and demos. Hosted by Micro Office and The Hatchery, the early part of the evening was kicked off with a presentation demystifying the new Jobs Act. Hank Barry and Thomas Kim, Partners at Sidley Austin, and Kim former SEC Corporation Finance Chief Counsel, shed light on just what the new regulations mean to investors and startups; mainly Rule 506 requiring verification of credited investors.

The following 90 minutes was followed by a panel discussion with six investors with expertise in a variety of fields including digital media, big data, healthcare, mobile, and clean technology. The investor panel included Jeff Tannenbaum of BlueRun Ventures, Nathan Low of Sunrise Securities, Lucas Nelson of Gotham Ventures, Carter Page of Global Energy Capital, Charlie Kemper of Revel Partners. Some key advice left by the investors was to 'keep it small' as 'not all businesses are right for VC investors.' Other questions that came up touched upon pitch decks, differentiation in the market, revenue and the need for passion in a good product or service.
