On Monday, the 20th of October, 2014 OLC attended NUI Central’s October event, “Do that crazy hand jive – Skeletal hand tracking for VR and beyond.” Held at WeWork Labs located at 69 Charlton Street in New York City, the event was hosted by Ken Lonyai and Debra Benkler, Co-Founders of the first Natural User Interface Community.
Speaker Robert Wang, spoke about his experiences as a Founder of 3Gear Systems, a startup pioneering innovations around perfecting the evolution of skeletal hand tracking software into the 21st century. San Francisco-based, their highly meticulous systems can monitor down to each bone of an individual’s finger movement, allowing for more subtle and precise natural input with a graphical output. Wang spoke about various applications he envisions with advancements in technology, with a particular focus on virtual reality and 3D manipulation.
Wang received his PhD from MIT in EECS focusing on color gloves and computer vision.
