Slacker, Inc., the creators of Slacker Personal Radio, a music personalization suite has recently signed a lease for a portion of the 10th floor at 19 West 21st Street. The property is a boutique, twelve-story, 130,000 square foot office property constructed in 1894 and currently owned by Professional Consortium Ltd.
Slacker’s products include an internet radio player, desktop music player and portable music device. The Slacker Web Player plays songs depending on what you like or dislike, it will play songs depending on the user’s voting history. Ideally, the personalized station will become more and more refined to the user’s music preferences. This basic service is free and ad-supported.
Slacker was founded in 2006 and has received over $68 million in venture funding from firms including Austin Ventures, Centennial Ventures, Mission Ventures, Rho Capital and Sevin Rosen.
Slacker was represented by OLC’s Jack Petrie. This transaction shows the continued viability of the Gramercy Park/Flatiron submarkets as a community/destination for NYC’s burgeoning technology sector. The area now boasts OLC clients First Round Capital, Grovo Learning, Peak Network, Red 3 Consulting, Spanfeller Media Group and many other firms, in addition to Slacker.
